Ikùmbì Center for Sustainability & Food Literacy: Kitengela, Kenya

Added on by Erin White.

Over the summer of 2020, we had the privilege to work with Chef Njathi Kabui, organic chef and food activist, on his visions for the Ikùmbì Center for Sustainability in Kitengela, Kenya. We listened to his ideas, studied his site from afar, and created a concept plan and concept renders for his ambitious agricultural education center.

International Kitchen & Gathering Space

Regenerative agricultural teaching farms weave through the campus, which includes an international teaching kitchen, dormitory and visitor housing, livestock barn and sheds, and varied gathering spaces. With a circular, holistic mindset on relationships, the campus pushes sustainability, community, empowerment, permaculture, regenerative agriculture, and the sociocultural expectations and implications of cuisine and identity.

This project is part of a constellation of projects Kabui is working on, and we hope that these drawings will help him push forward with this ambitious work.
